I agree absolutely that these things should be taught. However, I don't believe most of it should be the responsibility of schools. Parents have responsibility to educate their children as well, most of these things should fall on them. Change my mind.

We most certainly had first aid, hygiene, nutrition, some sex education, cooking, some budget management and reasoning as more or less direct curriculum. Many of the other are taught indirectly over the years. Then again I'm from a civilised country and not US

I agree with most of the posts here that say the majority of your list should be thought by parents. Though I think we should all recognize that it doesn't occur regularly. It's difficult for parents to educate their kids when the kids spend all day in school, have homework and then go straight to spending time with their friends online. You end up seeing them for maybe an hour a day during dinner and chores. Hell, with all the crap most adults deal with from work and caring for kids you end up only with a little time on the weekend. So educating your kids has to be a priority so that you can interact with them in those tiny segments of time. Be involved in their life and keep a speaking relationship with them. Otherwise they learn from their equally ignorant friends or worse the INTERNET. Now if you want to talk about skills that should return to schools...When I was in school we had auto shop, metalworking and carpentry. They were enjoyable and useful classes.
